Next event: a day of swimming with the Glamourhead Sharks, 11:30-1:00 in Middle Park, on the beach in front of the Sandbar Beach Cafe, 175B Beaconsfield Parade. Come prepared to play around in the water or on the beach and then head over to Hot Honey for brunch.

Mother's Day Classic
Anybody interested in walking in the Mother's Day Classic to raise money for breast cancer? We have set up a Sporty Dykes team.
All you have to do is register at the Mother's Day Classic website, https://s.eventarc.com/event/view/331/tickets/mothers-day-classic-melbourne
Register for the 4km walk, starting time at 10:15. When it asks about joining a team look in the Established teams section for Sporty Dykes and register with us. There is also a Sporty Dykes fundraising page.
If you can't walk with us on 9 May you have the opportunity to assist us in fundraising for breast cancer research. Simply log into https://s.eventarc.com/sponsor/view/280/sporty-dykes

New Partner
Hi everybody,
Sporty Dykes is excited to announce our new partnership with the Northside Clinic, our preferred provider of sexual and other health care for lesbians in Melbourne. Check them out at 370 St George's Rd, N Fitzroy or on the internet: http://www.northsideclinic.net.au/
If you are sexually active and have not had a pap test in the past 2 years, give them a call and get yourself checked! Make sure you discuss your own situation and learn whether a full sexual health check makes sense for you. They aren't just for gay men and women who want to get pregnant!!
And remember, 28 Feb - surfing in Ocean Grove!!

Surf Day
Next event is 28 Feb.: SURF DAY
SD are road tripping to Ocean Grove for a surfing day! We have six beginners' boards rented plus a group of women available to give lessons and lend us their more advanced boards. Or bring your bodyboard. Or just splash around in the waves with us and then join us for a bbq afterwards - basics supplied. It will be a terrific day!

Commencing 2010
Don't forget the Sporty Dykes Midsumma bbq at Catani Gardens, 31 January, noon. We'll gather under the big shade tree with the benches around it...we'll be the sporty women, you can't miss us! Bring balls, bats, frisbees, even togs...it's meant to be 34 degrees! Grill provided...bring whatever you want to throw onto it.
On Sunday we'll be getting a SD trivia team together to compete in the Also Foundation's Sexual Health trivia night to win us some cash to continue for another couple years. If you can't make it Sunday but want to participate in the trivia night, let me know. It will take place 19 Feb in Windsor and also requires a session with Also to learn the rules, etc...Date and time for that session TBA.

BBQ
The December bike ride was an unmitigated success! 15 riders took part in a Port Melbourne - Brighton ride, most returning with the peloton to dine at our regular spot, Hot Honey on Armstrong St. We had a beautiful day and only suffered one minor mishap early on when a non-SD rider nudged one of our number to the ground. No first aid was necessary, however, and everybody continued on bravely.

Also set your diaries for 28 February when Sporty Dykes are taking their second road trip. This time we're headed to Ocean Grove for a day in the surf. We've rented 6 beginners' surf boards and there will be experts on hand providing lessong. Many of us will also have our own bodyboards on hand. Afterwards one of our local members in Ocean Grove is allowing us to use her garden for a bbq so it should be a lovely day!! Perhaps carpooling for the event can be arranged at the January bbq...

Bike Ride
Our final event for 2009 is happening this weekend, Sunday 20 Dec, 11:30: a bicycle ride along the foreshore.
We'll meet up in Port Melbourne, near where the Spirit of Tasmania docks, the end of the 109 tram line, in front of the IGA where there is parking I believe... From there we'll ride to Brighton - about 10 km each way - and then back to Hot Honey on Armstrong St for a late lunch. If you're a road cyclist and want to continue the ride further, I'm sure you will find others who will join you! If you are new to cycling and want to turn around earlier, save us a table at Hot Honey...and don't eat all the cornbread!!
The forecast is for a picture perfect sunny 24 degrees...but we'll be out whatever the day brings! Hope to see you all there.
